No. 4 Van Buren holds off Crusaders

VAN BUREN - Van Buren, ranked No. 4 in the state in Class 2A knocked off Holy Trinity Catholic Thursday night in three games.

Sophomore Kassi Randolph led the 9th-rated Class 1A Crusaders 6-4 (2-2) in the 23-25, 22-25, 10-25 loss.

Randolph was 21-22 hitting with five kills and 13 assists. She also was 9-11 from the service line with an ace, 12 digs, and two blocks.

Claire Pothitakis had 10 kills on the night and was 32 of 34 attacking. Maria Rauenbuehler was 12 of 12 serving and had 28 digs from the libero spot.

Bailey Hellweg led the Crusaders with 14 assists on the night.

Van Buren (12-2) was paced by senior Salena Sayre who had 20 kills on 43 attacks. She also had 18 digs and was 13 of 15 serving with three aces.

Holy Trinity travels to Keokuk on Saturday for an invitational tourney, before hosting the HTC Classic starting at 4 p.m. Monday night at Shottenkirk Gymnasium.
