Fort Madison 8th grade 'A' team move to 9-6 on the year

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison 8th grade girls volleyball A team is 9-6 on the year after dropping two of three to Fairfield Monday night.

Lauren Helmick was 16 of 16 serving with an ace. Alexus Beebe was 8 of 9 and Gracie Blind was 7 of 8 as the Hounds fell 16-21, 21-15 and 11-15.

The B team lost 0-2, 11-21, 19-21. Ali Carson and Ava Baier were four of four serving. Ella Wright was six of seven serving with four aces. The B Team is 7-5 on the year.

The C team split its games 12-21, 21-11 with Mazie Hotop going a perfect 10 of 10 serving with 8 aces. The C squad is 9-3 on the year.

On Thursday the A team lost 0 - 2 to Washington 18-21, 23-25. Beebe went 11 of 12 serving with 2 aces. Helmick was 7 of 8 with an ace, while Aija Jenkins was 9 of 8 with two aces.

The 'B' team also lost 0-2 23-25, 19-21. Baier was 12 of 12 serving with three aces and Rylee Steffensmeier 4 of 5 with an ace. C team split again 21-9; 18-21 with Tia Jenkins going 11 of 14 with six aces.

Last week the A team won 2-1 over Ottumwa losing the first game 21-18, but coming back with 22-20 and 15-6 tiebreaker. Gracie Blind was 8 of 8 with 2 aces, while Taylor Johnson was 7 of 9.

The B team won 21 - 16, 21 - 18. Steffensmeier was 8 of 9 serving and Amy Yasenchok went 4 of 5 with two aces. Madelyn Gobble was five of six serving with two aces.

The C team won 26 -24, 21-14. Lily Arnold went 12 of 14 serving with 10 aces.

The D team split its match 17-19, 15 - 5 Ella Wright. Savanna Trout was 2 of 2 serving with two aces.
