Bloodhounds go 3-1 at Durant Invitational

DURANT - Fort Madison took three wins into the finals match against Maquoketa and came up short of the title at the Durant Invitational Saturday.

The Hounds downed Davenport West 21-11, 21-13 and then Grinnell 21-19, 21-15 before beating host Durant 21-8, 21-12 to advance to the title match against Maquoketa where they fell 16-21, 13-21 to end the day.

"We reduced our errors on the day and kept the ball in play. Our front row was able to get touches while blocking and which allowed us to set our defense. We served well throughout the day and put pressure on the serve receive the first three matches," Head Coach Kent Bailey said.

"While playing Maquoketa we ran out of steam and their height bothered us. Overall, our kids played well. It was good seeing them gain confidence in our firstmatch against Davenport West, and we built on that throughout the day."

Reyna Lampe went 38-39 serving with eight aces during the tournament to lead Fort Madison. She also had 13 digs.

Jillian Wiseman was 61-66 hitting with 26 kills. She also had 23 digs and four blocks on the day.

Lauren Bailey led the Hounds in assists with 42 in the four matches. Bailey was also 25 of 25 serving with five aces.

Fort Madison has won eight of it's last 10 matches and seven of its last eight, and has a game record of 17-7 during that stretch.

The Hounds sophomore team competed in the Mediapolis Tournament going 3-1. They defeated Mediapolis, Davis County, and Fairfield in the first three matches, and then lost to Holy Trinity Catholic, but took first place as a result of a tie-breaker.
