Carthage jailor charged with sexual misconduct

CARTHAGE - Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger reports the arrest of, Cory D. Hamelton, male, age 35, of Carthage, on charges of Custodial Sexual Misconduct.

At the request of Sheriff Bentzinger, the Illinois State Police conducted an investigation into allegations of custodial sexual misconduct between Hamelton, a correctional employee at the Hancock County Jail, and a female inmate.

Hamelton was arrested on Friday, October 11, 2019 by Illinois State Police Agents. A bail hearing was conducted on October 13, 2019 where bail was set at $100,000.00.

Hamelton is scheduled to appear in court on October 24, 2019. He currently remains lodged in the McDonough County Jail.

All subjects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
