Hellige medals at Senior x-country All-Star meet

ANKENY - Holy Trinity Catholic senior Matt Hellige captured 15th at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches All-Star meet Saturday.

Hellige, who finished 24th at the Iowa High School State Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge a week ago, medaled at the All-Star meet with a 17.50 time on the 3.25 mile course at Des Moines Area Community College.

The event featured the top 68 runners in the state from all classes divided into two teams East and West. Hellige took 6th place on the East Team. West won the All-Star classic with 18 points to East's 40 points.

To qualify for the meet all runners had to have a time of 17.50 or faster during the season.

Hellige passed eight runners on the final 1/2 mile of the course to grab the last medalist position to finish his high school cross country career.

Fifty-seven of the 68 runners at runners competed and six were top 15 runners at the state meet last weekend.
