FORT MADISON - Holy Trinity Head Coach Tony Johnson said at the beginning of the season he's fine with the Crusaders scoring 50 points a game as long as they hold everyone else to 49.

The Lady Crusaders have averaged 51.5 points in their two wins and have held their opponents to 38. Aside from a seasoning opening, short-handed loss to Central Lee, he's pretty close to the goal.

Holy Trinity got 15 points from Ashlynn Haas and 14 from Claire Pothitakis as they rolled past Highland 53-31 on Thursday night at Shottenkirk Gym in Fort Madison.

Pothitakis, who's playing in just her second game this year, led the charge in the first half with 10 points as HTC raced out to a 21-7 first quarter lead. A lead that would be enough to keep Highland at bay all night.

Haas had seven in the first half, but heated up from long distance in the second half converting a couple 3-pointers that pushed HTC's lead to 20 points with about four minutes left in the game.

"It was a good team win for us tonight,' Head Coach Tony Johnson said.

"The defense and rebounding is starting to get where we want it to be."

The Crusaders got balanced scoring with six players getting on the board. Maria Rauenbuehler had nine, Raquel Schneider had six, Ali Robu scored five points and Avery Hopper had four to round out the Crusader points.

"Everyone contributed tonight, but we ran into a little first half foul trouble," Johnson said.

Pothitakis and Brooke Mueller each finished with four fouls as the Crusaders racked up 20 fouls on the night. But Highland only converted 7 of 19 at the line.

Holy Trinity was a chilly 1-for-9 from the free throw line.

Senior Alyssa Brase led all scorers with 16 points for Highland.

The Crusaders (2-1) travel to New London for a Southeast Iowa Superconference South matchup Tuesday.
