Fort Madison girls can't hold lead at MP

MT. PLEASANT - Fort Madison came back from a 4-point deficit to tie Mt. Pleasant at 30 in the fourth quarter, but couldn't find the basket in the final three minutes in a 35-30 loss on the road.

The Panther's scored five unanswered after the Lady Hounds went on a 8-2 run from the end of the third quarter to 2:45 mark left in the game.

Mt. Pleasant's Tristan Shull sealed the game with a 3-pointer in the final :30 to give Mt. Pleasant (1-2) it's first win of the year.

The Hounds held an 11-10 first quarter lead sparked by senior Anna Kester's six points. Mt. Pleasant connected on a 3-pointer in the final minute to close the gap to 1. The Panthers would open up a 15-13 lead on a 3-ball from Isabel Ashton, but Fort Madison would tie it up on the next possession.

The two would tie again at 17 before Mt. Pleasant eeked out a 1-point halftime lead at 19-18.

In the third Fort Madison would take a brief 22-21 lead but the Lady Panthers would go on a 6-1 run the rest of the period for a 28-22 lead.

Kester led all scorers with 15 points. Camille Kruse had six, followed by Sara Bernhart with five. Molly Knipe and Brandy Walker each had a bucket for Fort Madison.

The Panthers didn't have a girl in double figures, but seven different girls scored paced by Lydia Stewart and Andrea Lopreato each with nine points.

The Lady Hounds move to 2-4 on the year and are off until next Friday when they travel to Fairfield.
