Matthew Wendell Dickey, 94 years, of Houston, Texas and formerly of Donnellson and Fort Madison, Iowa died at 8:57 am Thursday, December 12, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Houston, Texas. He was born January 4, 1925 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, a son of Herbert and Edith Pauline (Rickett) Dickey. On March 3, 1954, he married Marjorie Lou Sullivan at Cantril, Iowa. She preceded him in death.

DICKEY

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II.  He worked years as a correctional officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary, retiring in 1987.  He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, upholstery, and reading, especially current events and history.     

He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Dickey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Karen Dickey of Houston, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill (Connie) Sullivan Cantril, Iowa, Steve (Janell) Sullivan of Bettendorf, Iowa, Martha Sullivan of Milton, Iowa, and Joyce Dickey of Donnellson, Iowa; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three brothers: Hershel, Royal, and Zane.

His family will greet friends for visitation from 2:00 - 3:00 pm Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend John Simpson officiating.  Burial with full military rites will be at Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.  A memorial has been established, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Dickey family and an online guest book may be found at  www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
