Mohrfeld sets PR in 200 free in Burlington loss

BURLINGTON - The Burlington Grayhounds fell to the juggernaut Bettendorf swim team on Thursday 115-55.

The Grayhound's Jacob Mohrfeld took first-place in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 1:52.49 including a 26.17 on the first lap. The senior from Holy Trinity Catholic finished four seconds ahead of the field.

Mohrfeld also took first in the 100-yard back stroke with a time of 1:00.91.

The Grayhounds 200-yard medley relay team of Logan Crank, Jordan Watznauer, Nathan Parks and Wyatt Hellman took second at the meet with a time of 1:54.59. Hellman had the fastest leg at 24.25 on the anchor.

The 200-year freestyle relay team of Mohrfeld, Watznauer, Taden Jameson and Nathan Parks earned a second place with a time of 1:39.61, 5.61 seconds off the pace. Burlington's Neil Macomber, Will Davidson, Cade Hillyer and Matthew Smith took fourth in the event.

Watznauer, Davidson and Will Neises went 3-4-5 in the 100-yard breast stroke, with Watnauer at 1:15.32, Davidson at 1:19.46 and Neises at 1:21.82.

The 400-year free relay squad of Crank, Colby Geiger, Hillyer and Mohrfeld finished third at 3:40.69.

In the 200-yard Individual Medley, Crank was third at 2:31.96 followed by Parks and Davidson in 4th and 5th.

HTC's Wyatt Hellman took 3rd in the 50-year free style at 24:34. Geiger and Jacob Venvertloh finished 4th and 5th. Hellman also took sixth in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:46.28.

In the 100-yard fly Matthew Smith and Taden Jameson were 3rd and 4th. Logan Crant took fifth at 1:16.43.

Locally, in junior varsity action Macomber and Michael Hellman were on the winning 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:32.32.

Hellman earned third in the 100-yard free style and fourth in the 50-yard junior varsity freestyle.

Macomber captured first in the 100-yard breast stroke at 1:24.32. He was also on the 400-yard free style junior varsity relay team with Michael and Wyatt Hellman that took second with a time of 1:11.81.
