VAN BUREN - The Holy Trinity Catholic girls basketball team got behind early and then fell off a cliff against one of the best girls basketball teams in the state.

No. 4 Van Buren hosted the Crusaders and quickly ran out to a 20-8 first quarter lead and then outscored HTC 16-7 in the seven in the second quarter.

But the steep hill the Crusaders found themselves in was nothing compared to the second half, where Van Buren held HTC to just two points running away for a 66-17 win.

No HTC girl had more than four points with Kassi Randolph and Claire Pothitakis eaching scoring a couple baskets. Ashlyn Haas chipped in with a 3-pointer for her only points of the night. Avery Hopper, Brooke Mueller and Raquel Schneider all had two points on the night.

The Crusaders (3-3) host WACO in a girls/boys varsity doubleheader Friday night at Shottenkirk Gym.
