Hellige, Crabtree combine for 36 in win over Mepo

MEDIAPOLIS - Seniors Matt Hellige and Blake Crabtree both scored a season-high 18 points as Holy Trinity Catholic downed Mediapolis 62-47 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders held just a two-point lead at halftime after allowing the Bulldogs to come back from a six-point first quarter deficit to go into the locker room down 26-28.

But a stifling defense in the third quarter held Mediapolis to just two points while HTC ran up 17 points, led by Hellige's 11 in the quarter.

Mediapolis wouldn't get much closer in the fourth as Crabtree scored eight of his 18 to help put the game away.

Quentin Schneider and Vasin Thurman each scored eight points on the night, while Jason Thurman added six and Chandler Rung chipped in with four.

The Crusaders (3-4) are off through the holiday break and get back to action Jan. 3rd on the road at West Burlington.

Prior to Saturday's game Schneider was leading the Crusaders in scoring at just over 10 points per game. Rung was right behind at 9.7. Vason Thurman sits at nine points per outing and Jason Thurman is at 8.3.

Schneider also leads the Crusaders in rebounds and is fourth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference South division with 9.5 per game. He's second in the conference in defensive rebound with 49 on the year, trailing WACO's Nik Coble with 54.
