Area man tazed after chase through county

LEE COUNTY - An area man was tased and taken into custody after being stopped by area law enforcement Monday afternoon.

The name and age of the individual has not been released, but Lee County Sheriff's deputies along with Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Iowa State Patrol and West Point Police scrambled to capture a man who allegedly rammed a vehicle in the 1800 block of 345th Avenue near Wever, and then got out and punctured the tires of the vehicle.

A chased then ensued westbound on Highway 16 through Denmark at speeds betweeen 60-80 mph. Authorities deployed stop sticks in his path and punctured the right front tire.

The suspect continued on the tire and made a northbound turn on 265th Avenue where the vehicle became disabled and pulled off the road. According to Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber, the subject got out of the vehicle with a knife and officers were able to convince him to drop the knife.

After a brief scuffle the man was tazed and taken into custody. Lee County EMS was called to the scene.

"We think it was some kind of domestic. Deputies are back out where it started and are gathering more information," Weber said.

No additional information is available at this time. Pen City Current will update with information on the suspect when those details become available.
