Mary Margaret “Margie” Meierotto, 88 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Tuesday morning, January 14, 2020 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison. She was born June 10, 1931, a daughter of Richard and Emma (Kessler) Coster. On December 29, 1952, she married Alvin Edward Meierotto in Fort Madison. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2015.
Margie was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School, Fort Madison. She graduated from nurses training in Burlington, Iowa. She worked as a registered nurse for more than 30 years, retiring in 1983 from the former Sacred Heart Hospital, Fort Madison. She was a member of Holy Family Parish. She enjoyed bird watching, music and singing. She was devoted to her family.
She is survived by three sons: Daniel Meierotto of Wever, Iowa; Brian (Barbara) Meierotto of Keokuk, Iowa; and Patrick Meierotto of Burlington; two daughters, Deborah Mapes of Montrose and Carol (Gary) Glasgow of West Point, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Richard and Alvin; four sisters: Mary Lucille, Mary Katherine, Mary Alice, and Mary Lois; two sons, Dennis and James, and one grandson, Spencer.
A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Visitation will follow and continue until 6:00 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am Friday, January 17, 2020 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, with Reverend Joseph Phung as Celebrant. Burial will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
