Mohrfeld breaks BHS swim mark in win

BURLINGTON - Holy Trinity Catholic senior Jacob Mohrfeld, broke a 31-year-old record in the 200-yard individual medley Monday at the 45th Annual Grayhound Invitational.

Mohrfeld broke the two-minute mark with a 1:59.76 time besting a 1989 mark set by Tony Nichols by almost three full seconds.

Mohrfeld's first place finish in the event helped the Grayhounds to a first place finish at the Invitational with 425 points, just three ahead of Galesburg.

Macomb was third with 401 points, followed by Muscatine at 352, Pekin-Tremont Coop with 307 and Keokuk with 105.

Mohrfeld also broke the one-minute mark in the 100-yard breast stroke with a 59.71 with the fastest lap of the day at 27.77. His time is now the fourth fastest in the state in the 100 breast.

Other first place finishers for the Hounds included the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Logan Crank, Mohrfeld, Colby Geiger and HTC's Wyatt Hellman. Hellman had the fastest leg at 23.29.

The Grayhounds 200-yard medley relay team of Crank, Mohrfeld, Taden Jameson and Geiger, took 2nd with a time of 1;49.53, two seconds off Muscatine's pace.

Other second places finishes for BHS included: Hellman's 23.40 in the 50 free, and the 400-year freestyle relay team of Hellman, Geiger, Jameson and Jacob Venvertloh at 3:39.01, 2.54 off the Galesburg team's pace.
