WAYLAND - The Holy Trinity Catholic girls got 10 points each from Claire Pothitakis and Ashlyn Haas on Thursday as they won on the road at WACO 36-27.

A sluggish first half had the Crusaders up by just two at 14-12 with neither team getting into double digit scoring until the four minute mark of the second quarter when WACO had an 11-4 lead.

The Crusaders managed just a bucket from Pothitakis in the first quarter as WACO's defense clamped down on senior Avery Hopper. But half way through the second period, the lid seemed to come off as HTC went on a 10-1 run with five different girls scoring in the stretch to take the two-point lead into the locker room.

Out of the break, the two teams played even ball in the third quarter with HTC still holding a two-point advantage at 25-23.

Haas would then open the door a little wider for the Lady Crusaders going 8 for 8 from the free throw line down the stretch as part of a 9-4 fourth quarter advantage to give Holy Trinity (9-9) the win.

Bailey Hellweg and Kassi Randolph each had five points for Holy Trinity, freshman Kayla Box had four and Hopper was held to just two points, a bucket in the second quarter.

Morgan Graber and Maysan Lee led the Warriors with nine each.

The Lady Crusaders travel to Winfield tonight to take on Winfield Mt. Union at the No. 5 seed in the Southeast Iowa Superconference tourney.
