Merschman goes for 35 in Hawks road win

ELDON - Central Lee junior Mya Merschman put up 35 points in the Lady Hawks 59-35 win over Cardinal in Eldon Thursday night.

Merschman is currently 7th in the state in Class 2A scoring at just over 24 points per game.

She put up 25, including two 3-pointers and 7-of-8 free throw shooting, in the first half as Central Lee raced out to a 38-21 first half lead.

Cardinal wouldn't get into the game at any point with the Lady Hawks opening up leads as much as 30 midway through the fourth quarter.

Macy Watkins had eight points on the night for Central Lee, while Makayla Morrison and Daly Brisby had six for Central Lee (11-7). Ella Sanders had two, and Karli Pohren and Lauren Schreck each had a point.

Lydia Moses scored 14 for the Rockets.

The Lady Hawks travel to Louisa-Muscatine tonight in the Southeast Iowa Superconference Shoot-Out before hosting Fort Madison on Tuesday night.
