WINFIELD - The Holy Trinity girls basketball team squad has one five of their last seven and is over .500 on the year after knocking Winfield-Mt. Union Friday night in the Southeast Iowa Superconference Shootout.

The Crusaders are now 10-9 on the year after a 48-36 win on the road.

Holy Trinity opened up a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter and were up by 12 at the end of the first half.

Senior Avery Hopper, who was held to just two points on Thursday against WACO and hadn't scored in double figures since Jan. 18, broke free for 19 points to lead HTC.

Holy Trinity would carry the 12-point halftime lead through the second half not allowing the Wolves to get any closer than 10 at 31-21 with four minutes left in the third.

The Crusaders would stretch the lead to 16 in the third, but were outscored 11-8 in the final period to set the final.

Ashlyn Haas finished with eight for HTC. Claire Pothitakis has seven, Bailey Hellweg hit her 18th 3-pointer of the year and finished with 6, while Brooke Mueller and Kassi Randolph each had four to round out the Crusader scoring.

Class 3A 10th-ranked West Burlington comes to town on Tuesday night to face the Crusaders in a girls/boys varsity doubleheader.
