PLEASANT VALLEY - The Bloodhound boys basketball team was hoping to end the week going 3-0, but a 64-41 Saturday loss to Pleasant Valley dashed those hopes.
Fort Madison stayed with the Spartans through the first quarter behind senior Jace Burgher's six points. The two teams started out 10-10 through most of the first period, but Pleasant Valley sent a message in the final minute of the period with five unanswered.
The Spartans then stretched the lead to eight before Fort Madison put together a comeback down 20-13 behind a couple 3-pointers from Dayton Davis and Michael Mosena to close the gap to three at 23-20. But they wouldn't get any closer the rest of the game.
Pleasant Valley hit the court after taking a 27-22 lead into the locker room and outscored the Hounds 29-7 in the third to carry a 27-point lead in the final period.
The Spartan's Ryan Dolphin hit three 3-pointers in the period, while Jacob Townsend and Jack Donahue went to work for a combined 17 third quarter points to help put the game out of reach.
Fort Madison wouldn't get any closer than the final gap of 23.
No Bloodhound was in double figures. Davis led Fort Madison with nine points, followed by Parker Denning, who had a couple 3-balls in the third period, with eight. Jayden Fedler, Mosena and Burgher all finished with six points. Tate Johnson and Landes Williams both had three points off the bench for the Hounds.
Fort Madison falls to 5-11 on the year and travels to Central Lee Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup.
