GBP, Burlington schools host Grand Hank STEM event

BURLINGTON – The Greater Burlington Partnership and Burlington Community Public Schools have come together to host Grand Hank for his very first appearance in the state of Iowa. Over 1,100 Burlington Community School District students in grades 7 through 10 will be impacted by the Magic and Wonders of STEM event.Grand Hank & The Magic and Wonders of STEM is a high-energy, interactive, hands-on science centered event designed to excite students about all things STEM. Grand Hank and his performance can be described as a Hip Hop Version of Bill Nye The Science Guy.

Two performances will be held at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, Iowa.  The first performance will be held on Tuesday, February 11 at 1 PM with a second performance held Wednesday, February 12 at 9 AM. This is a pilot program of the Greater Burlington Partnership.  If interest is high, a state wide tour will be pursued.

A former research chemist for Johnson & Johnson, Tyraine Ragsdale, (aka Grand Hank) has visited more than 25 cities across the United States, exposing students to STEM and energy career opportunities. His latest project is the renovation and construction of the new Grand Hank STEM Center for Inner City Youth adjacent to LaSalle University in Philadelphia.
