Pontoosuc man charged with killing father Monday

PONTOOSUC, Ill. - On February 10, 2020 at about 8:30 a.m. the Hancock County Sheriff's Office received a call from a citizen in Pontoosuc stating that his neighbor, Andrew De Haven, age 36, asked him to call the Sheriff because he had allegedly killed his father.

Law enforcement arrived and Andrew De Haven was taken into custody without incident. According to a release from Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger, De Haven told law enforcement that he had killed his father, Michael De Haven, age 67. Law enforcement searched the house and found the body of Michael De Haven.

Andrew De Haven was taken to the Hancock County Jail and held. Formal charges are expect to be filed Tuesday.

The Dallas City PD, Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigator, Hancock County State's Attorney and Hancock County Coroner assisted. with the investigation.
