Betty Sue Riter, 76 of Keokuk, IA died Monday, February 17, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

     She was born on May 7, 1943 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Wilfred W. and Lela Mary Seward Riter.  

     Betty graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1961 and the Burlington Business College in 1962.

     Betty had been employed by Thomas Truck, Hoerner Box/Stone Container in Keokuk for twenty-eight years, from 1972 until the company closed in 2000.  She then worked at the Lee County Recorder’s Office until her retirement in 2006.  

     She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk.

     Betty loved auto racing.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, St. Louis Cardinal and NASCAR fan and also a fan of local racing.  Betty was part of her brother, Joe’s and her nephew, Jeff Johnson’s pit crew team when they ran locally.   Betty also enjoyed family genealogy and keeping scrapbooks for her family.

     She is survived by one brother, Joe (Melody) Riter of Keokuk, one sister, Katie Downey of Kahoka, MO, one nephew, Jeff (Christy) Johnson and one niece, Jennifer (Jamie) Ross.

     She was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.

A funeral service was held Saturday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dixie Laube officiating. Burial will be in the Revere Cemetery in Revere, MO.

Visitation was held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.

     Memorials may be made to the Revere Cemetery or to the donor’s choice.
