FORT MADISON - Employees of the Fort Madison school district will get paid for the time off during the district's temporary closure after a special board meeting was called Thursday to approve the move.

The resolution authorizes Superintendent Dr. Erin Slater to place employees who work on a contracted or salaried basis, and employees who work on an hourly and/or non-exempt basis on an approved leave for the contracted or assigned days or hours during the initial period of the schools’ temporary closure. Employees shall receive their customary and regular pay they would have been entitled to receive absent the closure.

The resolution was approved unanimously by the board at GoToMeeting with all but two of the board members attending via the video teleconference at 4:30 p.m.

“I am thankful that as we work through this process of closure, the Board of Directors has allowed me to implement this resolution,” Slater said.

“The FMCSD staff is a dedicated group of people who work tirelessly for the benefit of students and families. I am grateful for the response which will alleviate uncertainties regarding staff pay during this time of temporary school closure. As a district, we will continue to do the very best we can for our staff and our students.”
