Roy Edward Flatten, 78, of Hamilton, IL died Monday, May 18, 2020 at UnityPoint Health in Keokuk, IA.

     He was born January 8, 1942, the son of Ed and Ellen Sutten Flatten in Osceola, WI. Roy graduated from New Richmond High School with the class of 1960.  

     On June 5, 1965, Roy was united in marriage to Susan Shern in New Richmond, WI.  She survives.

     He is also survived by a daughter, Christine Reynolds (Chris Kirkman) of Chimacum, WA, a son, Gregory Edward Flatten (Keri) of Denison, TX, seven grandchildren, Nick Reynolds, Wesley Flatten, Gage Flatten, McKenna Flatten, Olin Reynolds, Grant Flatten and Alexis Flatten, three great grandchildren, Mason Flatten, Tucker Flatten and Phoenix Flatten, one sister, Linda Rogers (Mike Miller) of Woodlands, TX  his step-father, Glen Beestman of New Richmond, WI and one sister-in-law, Max Flatten.

     He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Flatten, his mother Ellen Beestman and two brothers, Curtis Flatten and Kenny Flatten.

     He was employed at Armour Dial as a waste treatment operator for over forty years retiring in 2000.

     He enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing, listening to all types of music and motorcycle riding. Roy’s family was the most important aspect of his life.  His favorite pastime was playing poker, cribbage, 500 or euchre and he was quite a passionate player.  He also enjoyed traveling to Texas where he and his wife Susan spent winters at Tip O’ Texas.  

     A visitation will be held on Friday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions on mass gatherings there will be a limit of ten people in the funeral home at one time with social distancing guidelines in effect.   Those who attend are encouraged to wear a mask if possible.  Be prepared to wait outside or in your cars if there are ten people in the funeral home when you arrive.

     Burial will be at a later date in New Richmond Cemetery in New Richmond, WI.
