Hancock County deputy, K9 make drug arrest

HAMILTON - On Friday, June 5, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. a Hancock County Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 136 near the base of the Hamilton/Keokuk Bridge in Hamilton, Illinois after observing several traffic violations. During the course of the traffic stop, the Deputy observed indicators of criminal activity and requested a K9.

Hancock County Sheriffs Office K9 Deputy "Zaire" alerted to the vehicle and a search was conducted. Deputies located methamphetamine, a scale, and U.S. currency. Deputies also located an uncased handgun under the driver's seat. The driver did not have a concealed carry license or FOID card. The driver of the vehicle, Ray Williams Jr., 54, of Quincy, Illinois was arrested and charged with Illegal Possession Of Methamphetamine With The Intent To Deliver and Armed Violence. Williams is being held in the Hancock County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
