FORT MADISON - Richardson Elementary PTO is excited to announce their sponsorship of STEAMhound Learning, a cutting edge classroom that will assist in developing our students into deeper thinking, complex problem solvers. The targeted opening of this revolutionary learning space will be the first day of the 2020-21 school year.

Richardson Elementary PTO believes this new STEAMhound room will provide an immediate and transformative learning experience for all of Richardson Elementary's student body. Funding such a large and impactful project, perfectly embodies our mission of supporting all students and staff in their learning and teaching endeavors.

"When Mr. McKay approached us with the idea to sponsor a room for our STEAMhounds, we jumped at the opportunity. To create a space that would have the ability to enhance learning for all students and work cohesively with the recent award of our building's Computer Science is Elementary award, was a dream," said Michelle Bentler, Richardson's PTO Treasurer.

"Our ability to fund a project of this magnitude, in spite of our COVID-19 related setbacks, speaks volumes to the supportive nature of our community, and the hard work we put in to be responsible stewards of that support."

During the planning and preparation phase of this new room within Richardson Elementary, the Richardson PTO is asking for your help in selecting the official name. They invite you to head over to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FortMadisonRichardsonPTO/) and make your selection between “STEAMhound Station” and “STEAMhound Studio”. Voting for the official name of the STEAMhound space will begin on June 5th and continue through the weekend. The unveiling of the name will be shared on Monday, June 8th, via their Facebook page.

While you are on the Fort Madison Elementary Richardson PTO Facebook page, be sure to take a look at their newly published photos of the transformation in progress.

“On our behalf, Mr. McKay has partnered with the Fort Madison Community School District's operation leader, Nic Chiri, and his maintenance and operation’s staff to begin the transformation of our outdated computer lab, into our fresh and new STEAMhound space,” said Morgan Alchier, Richardson PTO Secretary.

“The work has been happening quickly, allowing us to really get a good idea of the potential that exists for this area. We are thrilled to have the opportunity and resources to provide such an impactful tool for our students and staff. However, we realize this is not a project our small group could do alone, and we thank them for their partnership.”

Richardson Elementary PTO will establish a date for a ribbon cutting ceremony, and unveiling, as completion of the project approaches. It will be our honor to host staff from Richardson Elementary, families of Richardson Elementary, and the media.
