Love Lee County tour planned for this weekend

LEE COUNTY - A group of rural Lee County shops, businesses, and gardens invite you to celebrate businesses off the beaten path this weekend, June 19-20, during their “Love Lee County” Tour.

Ten businesses, all located in rural Lee County are partnering for the event. Local wine, fresh cheese, antiques, locally distilled spirits, elk and bison products, baked goods, home decor, fashion, beautiful garden products and more can all be found as you tour rural Lee County.

“As summer officially kicks off we invite you to go for a drive to discover and support some rural Lee County gems.” said Shannon Wellman, “Lee County is filled with fantastic local and family businesses that you might not have been aware of or had the chance to visit. We can’t wait to show you all of the unique things we have for you to discover.”

All businesses will be open on Friday, June 19th and Saturday, June 20th with some also open for Sunday hours. The diverse group includes businesses located in rural Keokuk, Montrose, Donnellson, and Ft. Madison.

Shop for beautiful plants to complete your summer gardens at Jim’s Greenhouse, 2407 280th St., Montrose, open Friday-Sunday 9-7, for a large selection of annuals, perennials, herbs, and vegetable plants. Hillcrest Hostas & More, 2292 Hillcrest Rd., Donnellson, open Friday and Saturday 9-6, has a huge selection of perennials and gardens filled with hostas, daylilies, cone-flowers and more.

Pick up supplies for summer grilling season at Quarry Creek Elk and Bison Company, 1866 303rd Ave., in Ft. Madison, open Friday and Sat 9-6. Delicious elk and bison burgers, brats and meat are available and don’t miss their great selection of Western Wear and boots.

Head to Apple Tree Antiques, 1805 180th St., in Donnellson, open Friday and Saturday 10-4, for a great place to search for antiques, decor, and explore cool junk. While on your hunt for home decor drop by M.B. Weber Mercantile, 2237 234th St., in Donnellson, open 4-7 Friday and 10-5 Saturday and Sunday, which features original, refurbished and hand designed pieces, textiles, and primitives for your home.

If you find yourself hungry on your tour stop at one of the following businesses for a meal or delicious summer treat: Hinterland Dairy, 2149 Franklin Rd., open Friday 4-6 and Saturday 10-4 will have West Point based The Farm at Adelaide’s on site grilling cheeseburgers, hamburgers and brats. Explore the Hinterland Dairy farm store for fresh cheese curds, quark, aged cheddar and more. Harvestville Farm, located at 1977 Hwy 2 in Donnellson will be featuring specialty wood-fired pizzas on Saturday from 11-2 and the “Pitchfork Cafe” offers sandwiches and lunch options and is serving Friday and Saturday 11-2. Harvestville Farm, open Friday & Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 11-4 has a great selection of Father’s Day baskets & goodies with curbside pick-up available. AppleBerry Orchard, 2469 Hwy 2, Donnellson, will be open Friday and Saturday 1-5, for delectable apple cider donuts, strawberry rhubarb pie, apple pastry sticks, hard cider, wine and more. While in the rural Donnellson area, don’t miss the Christian Herschler Winery and Stagecoach Shop, located at 503 Franklin 6th St., Donnellson, open Friday and Saturday 9-5, for wine tastings and locally made wine. Complete your tour with a stop at Green Frog Distillery, 3345 270th Ave., Keokuk, open Friday 1-6pm and Saturday, 12-5 for a short tour, samplings, hats, shirts, and whiskey.
