Central boys stay perfect at 3-0

NEW LONDON - Central Lee posted seven runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to an 8-3 win over host New London Thursday night.

The Hawks got things started in the second when Kade Myhre hit an RBI double driving in Adam Boeck with two outs to give Central a 1-0 lead after two.

Dylan Stueker had things in hand most of the way throwing four scoreless innings giving up four hits, while striking out four against one walk. He stranded two in the first and left the bases loaded in the third without giving up a run.

The Hawks offense heated up in the sixth with Myhre, TJ Stutes, Jaden Hawk and Stueker all driving in runs.

Boeck led off the frame with a walk followed by a Jonny Snider bunt for a hit that moved Boeck over. Myhre would reach on an fielding error on a fielder's choice that scored Boeck. Stutes would then single driving in Snider. Evan Pohren would ground to short forcing Stutes at second, before Hawk slammed a double to center scoring Pohren for a 5-0 lead with just one out.

Luke Simmons would follow with a single and he would swipe second with Hawk holding everyone's attention at third. A wild pitch would plate Hawk and move Simmons up. Alex Sandoval would get hit by a pitch and then Stueker drove in two with a double to left. Boecke would fan is his second at bat of the inning, and Stueker would get thrown at third on a fielder's choice to end the inning with Central Lee up 8-0.

The Hawks would give up an unearned run in the bottom half, and then get into a little trouble in bottom of the seventh surrendering a couple runs on two walks and two singles, but Stutes would come in a clean things up with a couple fly balls to secure the win.

Pohren threw 2 1/3 giving up three hits and three runs, two earned on two strikeouts and two walks. Stutes had a zero line in his clean up role.

Simmons, Hawk, Stutes, and Myhre all had multiple hit games for the Hawks. Corbin Pohren had three of Central's eight stolen bases in the win.

Central Lee's boys are 3-0 on the year after making it to the state tourney in 2019, and have outscored their opponents 35-3 in the three games. They play host to Hillcrest Academy (1-3) tonight at 5:30 p.m.
