Gov. Reynolds to stop in Fort Madison Tuesday

FORT MADISON - Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds will be stopping in Fort Madison on Tuesday afternoon as part of an Iowa National Guard delivery of personal protective gear to the Lee County Emergency Management Agency.

EMA Coordinator Steve Cirinna said the governor will stop, along with Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, as part of a swing through southeast Iowa, which will include a stop at the COVID testing clinic in West Burlington.

"I'm not sure how much we're getting, but I do know we are getting face shields, procedural masks and we're getting gloves," Cirinna said Monday.

He said additional supply deliveries of gowns are planned in the near future.

The governor's schedule has her in Wapello at 9 a.m. and then West Burlington at approximately 11 a.m. at the Great River Medical Center's COVID-19 testing clinic at the fairgrounds, before arriving at Fort Madison City Hall where Cirinna has an office, at about 1:30 p.m.

There are also stops planned in Fairfield and Keota on Tuesday. Her next press conference is scheduled for Thursday.

Cirinna said the supplies the EMA is receiving are part of the state's program to rebuild regional and state stockpiles in the event of a resurgence of the coronavirus in Iowa.

"Iowa's secured additional supplies and they want to make sure we have a stockpile ready in case this thing ramps back up again," Cirinna said.

The Iowa National Guard has been instrumental in delivering supplies throughout the state and helping backfill supplies of PPE since April.

"They've done just an outstanding job and getting supplies around considering their three hours away from some of the delivery areas around here."
