Central Lee boys improve to 5-0

LONE TREE - Jadon Hawk and Dylan Stueker combined for 5 RBI and 4 runs as Central Lee stayed unbeaten in boys high school baseball with a 16-4 win over Lone Tree Wednesday.

The Hawks have done most of the winning on the road having only one home win, a 14-0 win over Davis County on June 16. The other two home games have been cancelled or postponed due to rain.

Monday's home clash with Burlington Notre Dame was postponed until July 1. The Hillcrest Academy game was cancelled and won't be made up.

On Wednesday night, the Hawks jumped on Lone Tree early with four runs in the top of the first. The Lions' Josh Mills had trouble on the mound early hitting TJ Stutes in the lead off spot. Evan Pohren would single moving Stutes to third, then a couple walks and an RBI groundout to short by Dylan Stueker had Central Lee on top 2-0.

Kade Myhre would reach on passed ball third strike that scored Hawk and then a wild pitch would plate Adam Boeck before Corbin Pohren struck out swinging to end the top half with the Hawks up 4-0.

Lone Tree would get one back in the bottom unearned on a throwing error.

Central Lee would put five more on the board in the top of the second. The Hawks would combine for three walks and four hits highlighted by Jadon Hawk's two-run single to center scoring Stutes and Evan Pohren. Corbin Pohren's smash back to the pitcher brought in Boeck before Mills got a strike out to end the inning.

Central would blow the game open in the top of the fifth up 10-3. Snider would score on a wild pitch with one out and Evan Pohren would ground out to shortstop for the second out. Then Hawk would single, Simmons would walk and Boeck would get hit by a pitch loading the bases. After a Stueker walk scored one, Myhre would connect on a 2-run single to left. Corbin Pohren would reach on an error scoring Stueker. Myhre would then score on a balk for a 16-3 lead before a ground out ended the inning.

Myhre would come on in the sixth to close out the game. Boeck got the win going four innings and giving up three runs, one earned on four hits and fanning eight.

Hawk led Central at the plate going 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and three runs scored. Stueker had 3 RBI on the night. The Hawks get the second home game of the year when West Burlington (2-2) comes calling Thursday night for a 7 p.m. game.
