DONNELLSON - A seven-run second inning gave the Central Lee Hawks a cross-county win over Fort Madison Friday night.

Kaden Myhre homered in the second inning and then pitched a shut out to lead the Hawks to a 10-0 win over the Bloodhounds. The Hawks stayed perfect with a 7-0 record while Fort Madison falls to 6-2 overall after winning six straight.

Myhre went five innings and gave up just one hit and one walk on five strikeouts for his first win of the year.

Jadon Hawk homered to left in the first inning with one on to put the Hawks up 2-0. It would have been a 3-run blast, but Hound's hurler Jason Thurman picked off TJ Stutes at second for the first out. Thurman would get the next two hitters to retire the side.

The Hounds would start the second with a runner on when Reiburn Turnbull reached on an error. But the next three hitters would go down in order to bring on the bottom half, where Central would take control.

Evan Pohren would lead off with a single and then Myhre would go yard to left field for two runs. Corbin Pohren would fan and Jonny Snider would go down on the strikes for the second out.

But Stutes would line a single to left and then steal second. Thurman would try to catch him leaning after the next pitch, but his throw would get past the covering shortstop and into center allowing Stutes to come all away around for the score.

Stueker would hit a grounder to left, and Hawk would follow with a double advancing Stueker to third. Luke Simmons would slap another base hit to left bringing in Stucker and Hawk to make it 7-0.

Tommy Eschman would come in to run for Simmons and would score when Adam Boeck doubled to right field on the first pitch. Pohren would then take a 1-0 offering down the right field line to score Boeck to make it 9-0 before Myhre struck out looking to end the inning.

Both team would go scoreless into the fourth, when Central Lee would go up by 10. Hawk started the inning with a sharp grounder to short for an infield hit. He would move to third on a two-out single from Evan Pohren to center. Pohren would take second with Hawk threatening to steal from third. A Myhre fielder's choice at third scored Hawk, but Pohren was called out to trying to get all the way to third on the play for the third out.

Fort Madison would go three-up, three-down in the top of the 5th to invoke the 10-run rule and end the game.

Fort Madison senior Jace Burgher had the only hit of the game for Fort Madison on an infield single to second.

Jadon Hawk was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and three runs scored to lead Central Lee. Evan Pohren went 3-for-3 for the Hawks with an RBI and a run. Stutes had two hits and run scored. Myhre was 1-for-3 with this homer with 3 RBI. Luke Simmons was 1-3 with 2 RBI. Stueker and Boeck also had hits for Central Lee.

The Hawks take on Cardinal at home on Monday night and then have a make up game Wednesday with Burlington Notre Dame at home in a Southeast Iowa Superconference matchup with conference title implications on the line. The Nikes only loss was 2-1 to Davenport Assumption the first week of the season.

Fort Madison travels to Fairfield to return to conference action in a double header there Monday night. The Hounds are tied atop the Southeast Conference at 4-0 with Mt. Pleasant. The two teams split the season-opening double header and will meet again on Thursday this week in Fort Madison.
