FORT MADISON - Another abandoned home has been destroyed by fire in Fort Madison.

Fort Madison firefighters were called to the scene of the structure fully engulfed in flames at about 3:10 a.m. Thursday morning. Fort Madison firefighters and city workers were on the scene for several hours and the home was considered a loss.

The cause of the fire is remains under investigation. Fire Chief Joey Herron was unavailable for comment on the fire. It's the latest in a string of homes in the city that have been abandoned and have caught fire.

The home was sold in March by Paul Peterson to Mehrdad Tabatabaian for $7,500, according to the Lee County Recorder's office listings. The home had changed ownership five times in the last six years.
