Wever man killed in DM car accident Saturday

DES MOINES - An early Saturday morning vehicle crash in Des Moines has taken the life of a Wever man.
Lee County officials confirmed Saturday that one of four people killed in the fiery collision southwest of the Des Moines airport was from Wever.
Des Moines Police, as of Monday at noon had not released the names of the victims pending notification of family, but asked Lee County Sheriff’s office to help contact the man’s family.
According to a release from the Des Moines Police, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to investigate a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 4200 block of George Flagg Parkway.
The crashed vehicle, with multiple occupants, had caught on fire. A Des Moines Police Department police officer was the first on the scene and was able to rescue one person from the vehicle. Four other occupants were killed in the crash.
Those killed in the crash are the 22-year-old driver, a 22-year-old passenger, 23-year-old passenger, and a 24-year-old passenger. All are male.
The passenger rescued from the vehicle is a 22-year-old female. She remains hospitalized in serious condition.
According to the release, preliminary examination of evidence at the scene indicates that the 2013 Volkswagen Golf was being driven westbound on George Flagg Parkway when it left the roadway to the north. The vehicle returned to the roadway, crossing the eastbound lanes and then leaving the roadway to the south. It stopped as it struck a tree. The vehicle then caught fire. Excessive speed and failure to maintain control appear to be significant contributing factors to the crash.
