Whaley, Johnson, and Thurman named 1st Team All- Southeast

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison incoming freshman Lexi Whaley made an impression on softball coaches as she was named to the 1st Team All-Conference for 2020.

Joining Whaley on the team was sophomore Logan Johnson.

The Lady Hounds finished the year 10-10, but the highlight may have been a 3-2 loss in Class 4A Region 7 Semifinal to Class 4A No. 3 Fairfield.

Whaley hit .422 on the year with seven home runs, tops in the Southeast Conference, and 20 RBI both led the Bloodhounds. Johnson hit .371 with four home runs and 12 RBI.

Junior Kylee Cashman and freshman Neeley Rehm were named to the second team and seniors Dalyn Wondra and Ivy Geerdes made honorable mention. Rehm went 5-7 in the circle striking out 50 with a 3.17 ERA. Cashman playing predominantly at short had an 88% fielding accuracy, while hitting .357 with a couple triples.

On the boys side, Jason Thurman made 1st Team in the Southeast Conference as an infielder for the 11-7 Bloodhounds. Thurman was also a 1st Team All-District pick.

The junior hit .420 to lead Fort Madison and only committed three errors on the year for a .955% fielding. Thurman was clean on the mound going 1-0 with three saves, just one walk and no hit batters on the season.

Sophomore Reiburn Turnbull and senior Brandon Reichelt were named to the second team along with freshman Kane Williams and sophomore Landes Williams, sophomore Matt Hopper and junior Vasin Thurman.

Sophomore Tate Johson and senior Jace Burgher were both named honorable mention.
