Area youth fare well at state baseball tourneys

LEE COUNTY - A host of Lee County youth baseball players competed at the Iowa USSSA State tournament last weekend, bringing home some hardware.

The Doherty Baseball Academy Red team went 5-1 at the tournament and captured first place in their division. The squad knocked off River's Edge Black 12-3 in the title game

The teams only loss was a 4-1 loss to Waukee Wolves on Friday.

The Jr. Bloodhounds played in the Elite bracket at state this past weekend.  and placed second.  The Hounds lost a 7-6 nailbiter in the championship game against North Linn 13U and went 5-2 at the tournament. The Hounds will be playing the 13U Burlington Xplosion on Monday August 17th at Community Field at 5 pm. Tickets are $5.

The Burlington Mudd Dawgs also captured first place in the 8U Kids pitch division. The Dawgs got swept two games from Trojan Gold 8U Saturday and Sunday with a 9-0 title win Sunday.
