Wondra named to Class 4A All-Academic team

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison slugger Lexi Whaley was named to the Class 4A All-State girls softball 3rd team on Tuesday.

Whaley, who has yet to start her freshman year in high school, was the youngest player to make any of the Class 4A teams.

The eighth grader hit seven home runs to lead Hounds, who went 10-10 on the year, just missing a huge upset over 23-1 Fairfield in the Class 4A Regional semifinals 3-2 on July 18. Whaley's homers were sixth best in the state in 4A.

Whaley also led the Hounds with 20 RBI on the year and in hitting at a .422 clip. Her slugging average, which is the total number of bases divided by total at bats was .750, and her on-base percentage was second on the team at .479 behind sophomore Logan Johnson.

Fort Madison senior Dalyn Wondra was named to the state's Class 4A All-Academic Team.
