Police looking for suspect in Wednesday stabbing

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison police are actively searching for a 39-year Fort Madison resident in connection with a stabbing that occurred near the 400 block of Avenue F Wednesday night.

Fort Madison Police Chief Mark Rohloff wrote in a release Thursday morning that the incident was an isolated domestic assault and there is no substantial risk to the public.

Fort Madison Police, along with Lee County EMS and Fort Madison Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the scene just before 9 p.m. after a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival first responders found a 24-year old victim of a stab wound to the forearm.

"It is known that the event is related to an earlier disturbance at a nearby residence. The suspect had returned to the area when confronted by another family member. During the encounter, the 24-year-old victim was stabbed in the forearm by the 39-year-old suspect. Both are residents of Fort Madison," Rohloff wrote in the release.

Officers rendered first aid on scene and the victim was taken to the hospital by Lee County EMS for treatment. The matter has been referred to the Lee County Attorney's Office.

Further information is being withheld pending investigation and custody of the suspect.
