The following is a letter from the leadership at the Fort Madison YMCA regarding a confirmed positive COVID-19 test of a staff member

Dear Y Patrons,
We wanted to take this time to let you, our community and members, know that we have had a staff person with the Fort Madison Family YMCA test positive for COVID-19. This person is currently in quarantine has had limited exposure to the YMCA facilities. All who have potentially been exposed have been contacted. We felt that it was important to inform you of this positive test and how we are proceeding at this time.
We have been in communication with the Lee County Health Department in regard to steps that need to be taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus within our staff and our members. We’ve had additional staff members get tested for COVID-19 and are currently waiting for the results of those tests.
With guidance received from LCHD, we have followed CDC’s recommendations for the deep cleaning and disinfecting our facilities so that the Y can remain open and operate in a safe manner and limit the spread of this pandemic. According to a press release by LCHD on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, “LCHD reminds everyone, now more than ever, it is very important to maintain a 6-foot social distance from people outside of your own household whenever possible, mask up, wash your hands frequently, and stay home if you are ill or have symptoms.”
The health and safety for our staff, Y Members, and our community is first and foremost.
