District implements temporary measure in response to surge in confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lee County

DONNELLSON, IOWA — Due to a recent surge in confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lee County, the Central Lee Community School District will temporarily limit spectators at extracurricular competitions and events.

The new rule will take effect Friday, prior to Central Lee High School's home football game against Pekin. For this game and all outdoor events moving forward, each player, coach, cheerleader and band member will receive four tickets to give to guests. Only those with tickets will be allowed entry, after paying admission.

At the game, spectators will sit in every other row to promote social distancing. They will be allowed to place lawn chairs outside the track and outside lane number seven to watch the game.

Additionally, participating students for future indoor events will receive two tickets each. Masks are required for all indoor events and are highly encouraged, but not required, for outdoor events.
The district will consider loosening these restrictions once Lee County experiences a significant decline in its 14-day rolling average of COVID-19 cases.

“While we know that these restrictions are disappointing for our student-athletes, families, coaches and fans, we have a responsibility to take the actions necessary to minimize risks at a time when COVID-19 is affecting many people in our community,” said Dr. Andy Crozier, CLCSD Superintendent. “We will closely monitor the situation and work with the Lee County Health Department to determine when these restrictions may be safely lifted.”

Fans who cannot attend Central Lee athletics events can live-stream them on the NFHS network, at https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/central-lee-high-school-donnellson-ia.
