Lady Hounds win Kirksville XC meet; boys 2nd

KIRKSVILLE - Fort Madison's girls cross country team took first place at the Kirksville cross country meet Thursday night, while the boys took second overall.

The Lady Hounds had five of the top 11 finishers paced by Paetyn Wiegand and Jordyn Burch with 23:26 and 23:58 times good for fifth and sixth place. Ellie Schulte, Lily Scott and Maddie Rashid finished 9th-11th to secure the top spot. Raquel Schneider was 14th overall to round out the Lady Hounds scoring.

In the boy's run, Will Gager took 3rd overall with a time of 17:55 as the Hounds captured 2nd place as a team. Austin Miller finished in the top five with a time of 18:27 good for 5th place.

Anthony Barnes and Hayden Wolfe took seventh and eighth place while Tate Settles, Nathan Bowen and Alex Steffensmeier took 15th-17th respectively.

Central Lee's Amanda Gilpin finished in second place in the girls run with a 21:24 time. The Lady Hawks took 4th at the run.

Addy Brumble was 19th overall, while Brianna Gruntmeier, Adrienne Britt and Sidney Gruntmeier finished 22nd-24th, and Emmy Liu finished 27th.

Holy Trinity's boys finished 4th as a team led by Mitchell Pothitakis' 12th-place finish with a time of 19:22. Chandler Rung took 22nd, followed by Edward Schroeder-23rd, Sheldon Kruse - 31st, Jacob Pothitakis - 35th, Nick Fullenkamp - 39th, and Conner Gehling - 42nd.

For Central Lee's boys, Logan Crank was 18th overall at 21:09 helping the Hawks to a 3rd-place team finish. Grant Anderson finished 20th, Aden Ross was 25th, Tristan Howell was 26th, Derick Denning finished 29th, Dante Merschman was 33rd, and Brenden Mulligan rounded out the Hawks runners with a 34th-place finish.

Top 10 area boys in the junior varsity run were Carson Rashid -3rd, John Cottrell - 4th, Nathaniel Swigart 6th, Ben Thiele - 9th and Cameron Shutwell 10th, all of Fort Madison. Jackson Denning was 8th overall for Central Lee.

Fort Madison's Lauren Otte and Rachel Herman was 2nd and 3rd in the girls JV run.

FMMS' Peyton Lambert won the middle school boys run with a time of 9:23. Central Lee's Brayden Wyrick was third with a mark of 9:32.59, just in front of the Hawks' Ayden Kent at 9:32.77. Holy Trinity's Tate Green was 5th at 9:38.

In the girls middle school run, Avery Rump was 3rd at 9:49, ahead of five other Little Hounds at 5th-9th place. Central Lee's Maren Doty finished 12th.
