Mabel Medaris, age 97, of Columbus Junction Colonial Manor, formerly of Morning Sun and Farmington, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020.

Mabel Irene was born on July 30, 1923 in Van Buren County. She was the sixth child of Lonnie and Nellie (Dorothy) Lowery. On October 4, 1942, she married Lewis Eugene Medaris in Kahoka, Missouri. They celebrated sixty-six years together before he passed in February of 2009.

Survivors include one son: Lewis (Patricia) Medaris of Blairstown, Iowa; three daughters: Nancy (Bob) Nelson of Morning Sun, Iowa, Sherry (Ed) Cahill of Boulder, Colorado and Cindy (Mike) Ward of Bonaparte, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Glenn, Floyd, Paul and Raymond; sister: Gladys and granddaughter: Heather.

Mabel was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church, where she and Gene were long time janitors, and the United Methodist women. She enjoyed working in the church and teaching Sunday school. She was an excellent seamstress, making most of her family’s clothes including her daughters’ wedding gowns. Mabel and Gene helped and cared for many friends during all their years in Farmington. Most of all, she enjoyed being with family, especially her grandchildren.

Per Mabel’s request and due to the COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation.

A private family service will be held Monday, September 14, 2020, at Farmington United Methodist Church in Farmington.

Burial will be at Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington.
