Paul Leo Scott, 72, of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 7:20 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at his home in West Point.

He was born on May 5, 1948, in St. Paul, Iowa, the son of Mark and Frances (Pieper) Scott. On December 30, 1971, he married Judi Steffensmeier in St. Paul, Iowa.Survivors include his wife: Judi; four sons: Rob (Sara) Scott of Hiawatha, Iowa, Nate (Danielle) Scott of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Doug (Kayla McCannon) Scott of West Des Moines, Iowa and Josh (Elizabeth) Scott of West Point, Iowa; nine grandchildren (each nicknamed by Papa: Isaac “George”, Olivia “Sweet Pea”, Trevor “T-Bone”, Andi “Pinky”, Alex “Peaches”, Archie “Pete”, Lucas, Rylie and Leo “Butch”; six siblings: Lee Meller of Fort Madison, Iowa, Helen Johnson of Fort Madison, Iowa; Janice Winnike of Santa Fe, Texas, Carol Heitz of Naples, Florida, Lee Scott of West Des Moines, Iowa and Pat Scott of Fort Madison, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father: Mark Scott; mother: Frances Caslavka; step-father: Milvoy Caslavka and brother-in-law: Mike Johnson.
Paul served in the United States Army, as a medic, during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Paul’s Plumbing & Heating for forty-one years. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Parish Council, the Knights of Columbus, West Point American Legion Holtz - Geers Post #668 and the West Point Navy. Paul was a great husband, father and papa!

Friends may call after 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2020, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Father Dennis Hoffman and Deacon Jim Vonderhaar officiating.
The Mass will be streamlined live on the church Facebook page. Those attending are required to wear a mask and social distance.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with full military rites presented by the West Point American Holtz - Geers Post #668.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory to upgrade the street lighting at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
