Gager, Miller go 1-2 at Fairfield X-C meet

FAIRFIELD - It's turning into daily battle on the Fort Madison Cross Country team. On Thursday, Will Gager took the lead literally and figuratively.

Gager too first place at the Fairfield Cross Country Meet. Gager finished the run at 17:45.78 just under 5 second ahead of fellow Bloodhound Austin Miller who took 2nd at 17:50.64.

Miller edged Gager a week ago at the Centerville run.

The top two spots weren't enough to hold off Ottumwa who won the meet with 44 points. Fort Madison was second with 49 points. Burlington finished 3rd with 60 points.

Anthony Barnes was the other top 10 runner for Fort Madison, taking 8th place with a time of 18:49.56. The other two scoring runners for Fort Madison were Hayden Wolfe at 19:29.29 (15th) and Carson Rashid at 20:25.84 (23rd).

In the girls varsity run, Paetyn Wiegand finished sixth with a time of 23:15.09. Jordyn Burch took 10th place overall with a time of 24:22.42 to help Fort Madison to a 3rd place finish overall.

Other scoring runners for Fort Madison were Raquel Schneider 25:00.23 (14th), Mylah Blanchard 26:53.45 (23rd) and Maddie Rashid 28:44.39 (26th).

In the junior high girls 3200 meter run, Fort Madison's Avery Rump finished 2nd to Mt. Pleasant's Abigail Carthey. Rump finished with a time of 13:17.09 about 27 seconds off the pace.

In the boys junior high run, Peyton Lambert took second place in the 3200-meter run witha time of 12:46.37. Nolan Guzman finished fifth overall with a time of 12:53.54.
