Central Lee bows out at Mid-Prairie

WELLMAN - The Central Lee put up a late touchdown, but Mid Prairie ended the Hawks' season with a 49-7 loss in Class 2A Pod 12 post season football Friday.

The Golden Hawks (4-3) beat Central Lee (0-8) 49-0 back on Sept. 11 in Donnellson.

Mid Prairie jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead after the first quarter behind the strong running of senior Kayden Reineir who had 165 yards and four TDS on just 12 carries, or about 14 yards per touch.

Mid Prairie opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown and then came right back in less than two minutes with its second score. The Central Lee were able to hold the Golden Hawks at bay until four minutes into the second quarter.

With just over 11 minutes left, senior Keegan Gingerich got loose in the secondary and raced 62 yards to the endzone to make it 21-0. Then Mid-Prairie would go back to work on the ground, securing touchdown runs of 42 yards and 5 yards before the end of the half for a 35-point lead.

Another touchdown on a 30-yard run with 7:55 left in the game, put on the running clock. The Golden Eagles would score again on a 1-yard plunge with 2:34 left in the 3rd.

Central Lee would get on the board in the 4th quarter with 5:23 left when Dylan Stuecker would find senior Jaxton Betker from eight yards to avoid the shut out.

Stuecker, a senior, would throw for 99 yards, going 12 of 27 without an interception. Mid-Prairie bottled up the Hawks run game holding Central Lee to -5 yards on the ground.

Betker had 83 receiving yards and the score. Kaleb Sanders had two catches for 10 yards.

Sophomore Corbin Pohren led the team with 6.5 tackles including five solo and one for a loss. Senior Connor Moore had six tackles, four solo and a sack to help the Hawks defensively.
