KEOSAUQUA - Mya Merschman's 20 points wasn't enough for the Lady Hawks as Van Buren's Isabel Manning countered with 29 in the Warriors' 55-39 home win over Central Lee Tuesday night.

Merschman has 12 in the first half and helped the Hawks fight back from a 13-8 first quarter deficit to tie the game at 22 going into the locker room.

But Van Buren would heat up in the third outscoring Central Lee 14-5. Merschman would convert on a bucket and Mya Lampe would connect on a 3-pointer for the Hawks only scoring in the stretch.

"We played OK in the first half, but couldn't get over the hump in the third quarter," Head Coach Jay Baldwin said.

Manning would stay hot in the fourth quarter putting up 11 as the Warriors ran away with it.

Baldwin said the squad is doing different schemes on both sides of the floor and he anticipated some struggles early on.

"We knew we might stub our toe early on with some of the new stuff we are trying to put in," he said.

Makayla Morrison put in nine for the Lady Hawks. Maura Watkins had four, Lampe had three in the loss. Macy Watkins had a bucket and Kelsie Stewart converted a free throw to round out the scoring for Central Lee.

Zoe Best had 14 for the Warriors.

Central Lee (1-1) is scheduled to take on West Burlington (1-0) in a girls/boys doubleheader at Donnellson Friday night.
