Points scarce in FM boys loss at Mt. Pleasant Friday

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison boys hoops team sure felt the impact of a two-week coronavirus shut down on Friday.

The Hounds mustered only five points in the first half, two from senior Jake Eaves and a 3-ball from junior Tate Johnson as Mt. Pleasant rolled to a 49-21 home win over the Hounds.

Fort Madison didn't get into the gym until last week as the district was in a two-week remote learning protocol. Practices had been suspended up until Nov. 28.

Both teams had trouble finding the bucket in the first period. Johnson hit his three for Fort Madison's only points. The Panthers' Dylon Hagens answered with a three and Brevin Wilson hit a bucket for a 5-3 Panther advantage at the end of one.

Eaves would score the only second quarter basket for Fort Madison who went into the locker room down 21-5.

Mt. Pleasant would push the lead to 23 by the end of the third period 36-15. Reiburn Turnbull had nine of the Bloodhounds 10 points in the period. Fort Madison would have their highest production in the final period edging the Panthers 14-13.

Turnbull led the Hounds with his nine third quarter points. Eaves had six on the night and Johnson had five. Miles Dear and Dayton Davis each put in four, all in the second half and Phillip Goldie had a free throw to round out the scoring for Fort Madison.

The Hounds are off until Thursday when North Scott comes to the Hound Dome for a rescheduled game with a scheduled 6 p.m. tip-off.
