George William "Bill" Cackley, 87, of Hanna City, Ill., died Thursday December 3, 2020.

George William “Bill” Cackley, 87, of Hanna City, IL, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born April 12, 1933 in Keokuk, IA, the son of William E. and Alma A. (Pearson) Cackley. He married Elizabeth Joann Pontius on June 26, 1955, in Keokuk. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Bill is survived by his children, Linda (DeVere) Vernon of Hanna City, Diana Fitzgibbons of Bloomington, IN and Steve (Becky) Cackley, also of Hanna City; four grandchildren, Elyse Vernon, Leann Vernon, Erin Fitzgibbons and Ryan Fitzgibbons; two nieces and eight nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald P. Cackley, his sister, Marilyn E. Schroder and his infant son.

Mr. Cackley graduated from Iowa State University (BSME) in Ames and Bradley University (MBA) in Peoria, IL. He served as a pilot in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. He lived in Hanna City since 1959 while working for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Engineering and Purchasing, retiring in 1995 after 37 years. His contributions resulted in numerous patents, such as track type, drive mechanism and components, including steering brake and clutch control. He worked on the original design team for the D10 tractor, which introduced the elevated sprocket.
He served 14 years on Hanna City Village Board and was a founding director at the Hanna City State Bank where he served on the board for 30+ years. During retirement, he enjoyed volunteering as radio operator for the Logan-Trivoli Fire Protection District, serving on their board of trustees for 9 years.
He was a former longtime member of First English Lutheran Church in Peoria and most recently attended St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville.
Due to COVID-19, private graveside services will be at Scandinavian Cemetery in Montrose, IA. A memorial service is anticipated at a later date. DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk, IA is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Logan-Trivoli Fire Protection District or Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
