Bloodhounds get sweep at Mepo tussle

MEDIAPOLIS - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds swept a triangular wrestling meet with Wapello and Mediapolis Tuesday night at Mepo.

The Hounds only dropped three matches on the mat in the Wapello contest with Teague Smith falling to Class 1A 10th-ranked Christopher Ewart at 152 pounds in a tight 4-2 decision. Will Gager suffered a pin to Chase Witte at 126 lbs., and Nathan Leasch lost by fall at 220 lbs in 1:55 in his first varsity action of the year.

Fort Madison got pins from Mason Schau at 160 lbs, and Levi Lowney at 195 lbs in just :19 over the Indians' Owen Housman. Henry Wiseman recorded a pin at 106 and Brock Califf got a pin in :17 at 138 lbs. Gavin Wiseman got Cooper Garrisons shoulder's the mat in 50 seconds at 145 lbs.

Emmett Kruse won a hard fought 3-2 decision over Wapello's Zach Harrbison at 113 lbs and Matthew Steffensmeier earned a 11-5 decision at 126. 2020 State qualifier Owen Kruse won in a tight decision over Elijah Belzer 8-6.

In the Mediapolis match, the Hounds benefited from forfeits in seven weight classes. Schau completed the sweep on the day with a pin in the second period over the Bulldogs' Levi Arnold. Emmett Kruse scored a first period fall over Mak Kennedy at 113, before Steffensmeier fell in a tough 5-4 decision to Grady Gunn at 120.

Gager split on the night when he pinned Quinten Schultz 17 seconds into the third period and Owen Kruse completed his sweep on the night with a 1:02 pin over Nathan Krieger.

Califf took on Class 1A 8th ranked Quinten Aney at 138 and suffered a fall at the start of the second period.
