Betty J. Mead,92 of Ft. Madison passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 2:03 PM at The Kensington.

   She was born on October 8, 1928 in Farmington to Walter and Sara Miner Breitenstein.  On December 5, 1946 she married John E. Mead in Farmington and he passed away on March 5, 1997.  Betty worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. and retired after thirty three years of service.  She was a former member of the Santa Fe Methodist Church and Kings Daughters and a current member of the First United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading and walking.  

   Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Brandon of Ft. Madison; four granddaughters, Deonna Bonner, Michelle Schober, Angela Norton and Julia Windfelder; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Shaffer of Farmington and Sue Spanier of Fairfield; one brother, Larry Breitensten of Farmington; several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Ron Mead and three brothers, Jack, Glen and Harold and a sister, Virgil. 

   The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11 AM at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Kayla Carney officiating.  The family will meet with friends from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will be in Charleston Cemetery.
