Lady Crusaders miss upset bid at Van Buren

KEOSAUQUA- Holy Trinity withstood a 39-point performance from standout Isabel Manning but came up short in a 50-46 loss to Van Buren Tuesday night on the road.

The Lady Crusaders hung around within 10 points most of the night and then got nine in the fourth quarter from Raquel Schneider to close the gap to as close as five in the fourth quarter.

HTC held at 12-9 first quarter advantage behind six points from junior Kassi Randolph. The Warriors would erase that in second quarter with a 15-3 run as Manning threw up 11 in the period and led 26-17 at the half.

The Crusaders would cut the lead to five after trailing by as much as 14 in the third period. Down just five going into the fourth 37-32, HTC would outscore the Warriors 14-13 in the final period, but couldn't finish off the rally.

Schneider had a team-high 13 for HTC. Randolph finished with 11. Maria Rauenbuehler had seven all in the fourth quarter, Bailey Hellweg had six, Ali Robu had three and Kayla Box, Reagan Holvoet and Brooke Mueller all chipped in with two points on the night.

HTC (2-2) travels to 4-0 West Burlington on Friday in a boys/girls varsity doubleheader.
