FORT MADISON - As an unparalleled year comes to a close, Fort Madison Area Arts Association once again unveils a fantastic Annual Member Artist Exhibition for December. The skill level by medium is once again off-the-charts, showing that the creative energy of the Tri-State area cannot be curtailed. Bartlett Instruments is the sponsor of the exhibition.

Normally the reception slated for Friday would be packed, brimming with regional artists snacking and chatting about their adventures on the year. However, FMAAA will release the winners beforehand as the Board did vote for cancellation of the reception this Friday due to the increase Covid-19 numbers in the county.

FMAAA will be open their regular times on Tuesday-Thursday-Friday-Saturday 12-7pm so that visitors can engage in the socially distanced relaxed setting that has brought so many in the doors this holiday season, just safely staggered.

Voting is conducted by FMAAA Board Members and is based on their top three choices for every category.  A $50 stipend goes to Best Photograph, Best Three-Dimensional, and Best Two Dimensional.  Best of Show garners $100.  There were 55 submissions for this year’s exhibit and artists had until 7pm on the 5th to enter.  The show will remain up in the gallery throughout the first week of January 2021.

Molly Dillon of Ft. Madison won Best Photograph for Fall Leaves of Central Park. Carol Gunn (last year’s Best of Show winner) of Bonaparte won Best Two Dimensional with a pastel work entitled “Ivy”. Linda Ross of Wever takes Best Three-Dimensional with a personable ceramic sculpture named Beatrice.

Best of Show award goes to Karla Mundt of Burlington for Musical Chair. May FMAAA look forward again to all of the regional artists toasting to their skills next December 2021.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your friends at FMAAA gallery.
